Announcements: AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION CPR/FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Title

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION CPR/FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Body

This course includes interactive multimedia instruction, lectures, and hands-on practice sessions developed to encourage the participant’s ability to present interactive and informative CPR/First Aid classes. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant is eligible to receive an American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Instructor card. The course will be taught using the current 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

There are two levels of Instructor training to choose from:

The American Heart Association Heartsaver (HS) Instructor is eligible to teach all community level CPR and First Aid courses. This Instructor level is appropriate for anyone in the community with a good understanding of basic CPR and First Aid who has a desire or need to teach to other lay-responders in the community, including day care centers, schools, community organizations, and churches/synagogues.

The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor is eligible to teach all community level CPR and First Aid courses, and the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course (BLS HCP). The BLS HCP course is required for Emergency Medical Services providers, Nurses, Dental Technicians, and other healthcare providers as part of their licensing and continuing medical education.

COURSE PREREQUISITES                      You must be sponsored by your City of Albuquerque Department to qualify for this course. You must also be currently certified as an American Heart Association CPR Provider at or above the level of CPR you wish to teach to be eligible to take this course. To qualify for the First Aid Instructor endorsement, you must either be currently licensed as a Healthcare Provider (EMT, Paramedic, RN, etc.), or be currently certified as an AHA First Aid provider. This course does not teach the skills of CPR, rather it teaches how to teach CPR. It is expected that participants will have mastered their CPR skills prior to enrollment. Participation in this course is not a guarantee of successful completion. For assistance in meeting the prerequisites for this course, please contact the course director.
