The use of Shared Active Transportation while conducting City business 


Shared Active Transportation

Shared Active Transportation, and personal alternative transportation such as bicycles or electric scooters, are considered City Vehicles if used by City employees while conducting City business. The City Operator Permit Policy applies to the use of Shared Active Transportation and personal alternative transportation while in use for City business. City Employees who choose to use Shared Active Transportation, or their own personal alternative transportation, are reminded of the following safety precautions:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a valid City Operator's Permit
  • Wear a helmet while operating a bicycle or scooter
  • Should employees use Shared Active Transportation, during dusk and dawn hours while conducting City business, reflective clothing must be worn
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Wear closed toed shoes without high heels
  • Follow all safety instructions given by the company who provides the transportation
  • All incidents, no matter how minor, must be reported to Risk Management

Failure to follow these safety precautions shall be considered a violation of the City's Code of Conduct (see § 301.1 Duty to the Public and § 301.8 Safety).

Pursuant to the Conflict of Interest Ordinance, Article 3 (R. O. 1994), the Code of Conduct shall govern the conduct of employees and if violated shall be grounds for disciplinary action including, but not limited to, termination, demotion, suspension or reprimand.
